Introduction of Dermatology Department 皮肤科英文简介

INTRODUCTION:

The Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University College of Medicine grew out of the C.M.S. Hospital (founded in1896), which was one of the first in China that specialized in western medicine. In 1889, the hospital was changed as a leprosarium. In 1949, Department of Dermatology and Syphilology was one of the four major departments in the hospital. It is one of the few independent departments in China. In 1956, the first formal university hospital training program for dermatology in Zhejiang Province begins at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Medical University. Dr. YAO Jichang chaired the department. Dermatological service expanded in the areas of STD and mycosis. The department maintained an active outpatient service as well as inpatient beds. In 1984, Prof. YAO Jichang retired and was succeeded by Prof. SUN Guojun. The Department of Dermatology service expanded in the areas of mycology, histopathology and immunology. In 1996, Prof. Dr. med ZHENG Min was appointed as Chairman to the Department of Dermatology. A full range of subspecialty programs is available within the department. The first Dermatology Laser Center in Zhejiang Province was initiated. The dermatological research laboratory was set up and researches were initiated and shifted to basic science with practical applications. The cosmetic skin surgical Unit was set up. Photodynamic therapy for treatment of cutaneous carcinomas was initiated. A psoriasis research program began. In 2003 Outpatient Department of Dermatology moved to its present location in the Sixth floor of the new outpatient building. The present research activity includes clinical researches of inflammatory skin diseases (eg.psoriasis and atopic dermatitis), hair follicle biology, autoimmune skin diseases (eg. SLE, DM, SSD, pemphigus and pemphigoid), basic epidermal regulation and pharmacological study of retinoids, etc.. Basic research in areas of immunology and molecular genetics expands. The psoriasis research program is nationally prominent. Department of Dermatology handles more than 60,000 outpatient visits and 500 inpatient hospitalization each year and is recognized as the Province's finest resident programs in dermatology.
  Dermatology Section of Medical School in Zhejiang University provides full medical and surgical services in the Dermatology department at the First Affiliated Hospital , the Second Affiliated Hospital and Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital. The specific goals of the Section of Dermatology are as follows:

1. Patient Care: State-of-the-art medical care for diseases of the skin, nails, and hair are provided by a nationally recognized faculty and a high-quality medical staff, fully well equipped facility on the Dermatology section of Medical School of Zhejiang University.

2. Education: Medical students as well as postgraduate students, primary care physicians-in-training, and dermatology residents learn all of the elements of modern dermatology in order to provide the best possible care for their patients when their period of training is completed. Outreach educational programs for underserved areas of Zhejiang Province as well as other provinces are also an important part of the teaching mission.

3. Research: Faculty and house staff are actively engaged in basic and clinical researches in dermatology to expand the knowledge base of the specialty and to improve patient care options for the future.

Department of Dermatology has a strong tradition in scientific research. Defining the molecular basis of skin diseases, particularly autoimmune diseases, has established the department as a leading center for the investigation of many skin diseases. A multidisciplinary approach has resulted from collaboration with other scientists in the fields of immunology, oncology, allergy, rheumatology and molecular biology. The department has a commitment to clinical investigation, translating discoveries in the laboratory directly to improvements in patient care and in the understanding of skin diseases. Our mission is to provide excellence in patient care, research and education.

Clinic hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Location:
The Dermatology Department is located at 88. Jiefang Road, which is between Qingchun Street and Xihu Blvd, on the eastern side of the Road. Parking is also available.

The training is clinic-based and is centered at the Second Affiliated Hospital. The Dermatology Residency is a fully accredited comprehensive training program in medical and surgical dermatology.  

Each Tuesday afternoon at the Dermatology inpatient Section at the Second Affiliated Hospital, Dermatology Grand Rounds takes place. Patients with interesting or difficult dermatoses from throughout Zhejiang Province are presented in person. The discussion centers on the physical findings and the differential diagnosis.
